Yes it is. Go to: http://www.donotcall.gov, there you can regiser your number/s. They ask that you allow thirty days for it to take effect. I have registered every number I have including my work phone number since it is not a main business line. It has GREATLY reduced the number of calls I get. Keep in mind, if there is a business you currently do business with (like your credit card company), they are basically exempt until you ask them not to call you anymore. On the same website, you can also report the calls. I keep them in my caller ID and report them. The only way that they will feel the heat is if you hold them accountable. I have only had two calls in the past month, so it does work. Good luck. 888 is toll free Yes. There is a national dnc list and sometimes a local one as well. Look up Do not call on google. I registered and get no calls now. Keep in mind it does take a while for it to be effective though. Also there is an easy way to get rid of telemarketers quickly and legally. Interrupt them, say firmly but politely "I%26#39;m not interested, please place me on your do not call list, thank you." Then hang up. If they call you again, they get fined each and every time. Keep track of it if they call you back and report it to the FTC. (fair trade commission) Yes, and you can also register online: http://www.donotcall.gov
